Philadelphia Eagles 2006 Preview

Last season for the Eagles was one to forget. They had issues on and off the field. For the Eagles, the season ended in a couple of weeks. They finished an abysmal 6-10. Over the off season, they solved the Terrell Owens issue. Hes now with their nemesis, the Dallas Cowboys. Looking at the Eagles, they appear to be ready to move forward and get back on track. Unfortunately, the NFC East is going to be a rough division. Every team is expected to fight hard for the title.

Quarterbacks

I am not sure where to rank Donovan McNabb. He appears to be going the wrong way in his career. The 2006 season is going to be crucial for him and this Eagles offense. Many will be quick to blame last season on his injury and Owens. Will McNabb stay healthy this season? Will it matter? The Eagles brought in Jeff Garcia as a backup. Hes not the best quarterback out there, but he makes for a decent backup option.

Receivers

The receiving crew for the Eagles is expected to be just above average. They dont have a bona fide star on the staff. The Eagles will most likely spread the ball around to each receiver and see who develops throughout the year. Keeping healthy is going to be the biggest obstacle. If Todd Pinkston can play this seasonthe whole seasonhe could add a nice threat.

Running Backs

The Eagles have a pretty good running game. Brian Westbrookif he stays healthyis going to provide a good option for the Eagles offensive approach. To help keep him healthy, the Eagles might do a running back by committee for a fair percentage of the downs. Ryan Moats figures to get some decent playing time.

Defense and Special Teams

The Eagles have a top 15 defense in my opinion. One key addition this season is Darren Howard. He came over from the New Orleans Saints. As with the rest of the Eagles team, he also had health issues. However, he could provide the spark that propels this defense upward. They also added LB Shawn Barber and DT Ed Jasper. The special teams are also above average. David Akers should be back to his usual good self. Jeremy Bloom was selected by the Eagles in the 2006 Draft and hes going to be a return man. He could end up giving the Eagles that return threat they lacked last season.

2006 Prediction

The Eagles should have no trouble improving on their horrible 6-10 record from 2005. However, they are in a very tough division. Their schedule is a good balance of good and poor teams. They should be able to get to 8-8. How well they improved will determine the rest of the way. Their softer games include: Oakland, New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, New Orleans Saints, Houston Texans, and San Francisco 49ers. That could be up to seven wins waiting for them. The other nine games are against tougher teams, including the six against the NFC East foes.

Fantasy Sports and Online Gambling Intel Overlap

"It's just a fantasy. It's not the real thing. But sometimes a fantasy is all you need." That is what Billy Joel tells us. I thought it was Kenny Rogers who was the gambler.

Yes, it can remunerate to be a fantasy/rotisserie geek because it is a good dry run for excelling in the more important pursuit of gambling. I know our good friend Rick Ballou of Sportingnews Radio does not play fantasy sports because he does not want to have that rooting brain-teaser of betting on one side and having a player on the other side to applaud.

The cheering conflict of interest aside, the make-believe General Manager can get a lot of insight from the roto world. In the ancient times before the World Wide Web, I found that fantasy football had me analyzing from an extraordinarily different and favorable viewpoint than before I met gamblings cousin.

I had situations like having Emmitt Smith in his prime when he was the inimitable running back in the league. I can for example remember one week when two offensive linemen were out and the Pokes were on the road. Plus I had Chris Warren when he was in Seattle and he was playing a team without their two best run stoppers. Should I consider benching the worlds best running back because his match-up in not favorable? For the record, I stuck with Emmitt, but scrutiny like that actually refined me into dissecting games like few handicappers had ever before.

Fantasy sports managing helped me breakdown big match-up mismatches. It especially facilitated my acumen when it came to betting over/unders. Quite often imprudent handicappers deduce that an injury to a key offensive player may mean fewer points or a key defensive player more points.

But in my fantasy breakdowns it became quite apparent that if a run blocker on the offensive line was hurt, it might mean the team has to pass more. Kindred to that if a teams leading rusher were out and his backup were an ample drop-off. Often teams to compensate will have to fiddle with their gameplan and in such examples open up their offense.

A depreciated offense does not mean lower scoring. So many sports speculators and general football fans fall prey to the myth that the better an offense is, the more points they will number.

One of my favorite all-time examples was in 2001 once Edgerrin James went down for the Colts. It glaringly repressed their offense, but with a great weapon in WR Marvin Harrison and QB Peyton Manning, there clearly was one way to offset his loss: throw more often. Suckers determined losing such a weapon would mean lower scoring games. I knew while it depleted their offense, it meant they would have to be much more high-octane. They exceeded the total in 14-of-16 regular season games.

Let us say that a defense is lacking their two best run stoppers because of injuries and the total is high, I further investigate to see if it correlates to their opponent having motivation to run more. If so, the end result would be longer possessions, which also means fewer possessions. Fewer possessions mean fewer scoring opportunities.

Luckily though in the hypothetical state of affairs, the total is likely posted higher because of the injuries.

A better offense is not necessarily a high scoring offense and to a lesser extent a superior defense is not inexorably going to give up more points. A great defense, whose strength is stopping the run, may force the opponent to take more risks. A bad defense that has a decent secondary may be run against more often. Ergo the posted totals would be over-adjusted.

But there are compelling contrasts too. The words best fantasy player could be a dreadful handicapper and visa versa if one probes them as one and the same.

We handicappers must explore games one at a time, while the fantasy players must query long-term performances. Really this seems to happen more in baseball with hotshot pitchers up from the minor leagues, but can also apply in football. Joey Harrington may be great for your keeper league, but there will be peaks and valleys along the way. Actually a head-to-head league in which a participant changes his line-up is more conducive to handicapping than the rotisserie style leagues, but both are sources of knowledge.

Using fantasy sports and the foremost sites dedicated to such can make a winning football season more than just a fantasy. Thats the real thing.

2006 New York Mets Preview

2005 Overview:

Rookie Manager Willie Randolph and General Manager Omar Minaya entered the 2005 season with two new key acquisitions. Both Pedro Martinez and Carlos Beltran arrived via free agency hoping to improve the New York Mets lineup and rotation. Martinez (15-8 2.82) certainly impressed, posting a 10-3 record prior to the all star break. Beltran (.266 16 78) on the other hand struggled for most the season as the Mets finished the season with an 83-79 record, 7 games behind the Atlanta Braves.

Outfielder Cliff Floyd (.273 34 98) enjoyed a renaissance in 2005 reaching a career high in homeruns. 3rd baseman David Wright (.306 27 102) also came into his own while Mike Piazza (.251 19 62) ended his 8-year career as a NY Met batting only .232 after the all star break. Shortstop Jose Reyes (.273 7 58 60 stolen bases) was able to play a full season and impress but the rest of the Mets offense suffered with injuries and spotty output. Japanese import Kaz Matsui (.255 3 24) Mike Cameron (.273 12 39), and newly acquired 1st baseman Doug Mientkiewicz (.240 11 29) did little to provide the Mets with any stability in the everyday lineup.

Along with Martinez, Tom Glavine (13-13 3.53) was able to finally show a glimpse of the pitcher he once was by compiling a 7-6 record and 2.22 ERA after the all-star break. Starters Kris Benson (10-8 4.13), Vctor Zambrano (7-12 4.17), and Jae Seo (8-2 2.59) were helped by the aging Roberto Hernandez (8-6 2.58) and the emergence of Aaron Heilman (5-3 3.17) in the bullpen. Unfortunately, closer Braden Looper (4-7 3.94 28 saves) struggled for the entire season converting only 28 of 36 save opportunities.

Off Season Moves:

The Mets finally picked up the 1st baseman they wanted by acquiring Carlos Delgado (.301 33 115) from the Marlins. Catcher Paul Lo Duca (.288 6 57) was also netted from the Marlins fire sale while Mets GM Omar Minaya landed the closer free-agent lefthander Billy Wagner (4-3 1.51 38 saves) from the Phillies. Mike Cameron was moved to the Padres for new right fielder Xavier Nady (.261 13 43) and the ageless wonder Julio Franco (.275 9 42) was signed via free agency to a 2-year contract. Starting pitchers Jae Seo and Kris Benson were also dealt while relievers Jorge Julio (3-5 5.90), John Maine (2-3 6.30) and Duaner Snchez (4-7 3.73) joined the bullpen.

2006 Analysis:

While Minaya failed to land Manny Ramirez after all the rumors, he was able to add a legitimate power hitter in Delgado. Expect Wagner to be a tremendous upgrade over Looper. Lo Duca should perform well alongside backup catcher Ramon Castro (.244 8 41). However, the Mets starting pitching may prove to be a bit thin. Trading both Seo and Benson may have been a mistake. Look for Heilman to join the starting rotation after a strong effort in winter ball and Steve Trachsel (1- 4 4.14) to also return. If the Mets remain healthy and their rotation doesn't fall apart, they will contend with the Phillies and Braves in 2006

To prevent a prgram from starting up,you clear the check box next to it,click OK,and you will have to reboot for the change to takd effect.

Windows has services that may be running at startup which will cause slow bootup time.You can save both time and memory by stopping these services if you don't need them.

To open the services console,right click My Computer, and select Manage.When the management console opens,in the left pane double click Services And Applications.You can also click the plus sign next to it.This will expand the item and show the services.

The services listed as started are the ones that runs at startup.Automatic means that the services runs each time the system boots up.Manual means that the service may be started should Windows need that service.

Be certain to stop and take the time to carefully check the services running on your system.Disabling a service that windows need could cause problems however.

If you play games on your system you may consider turning off services that improve the performance of the computer.Turning off these services when not playing games should boot the system's speed.

STOP THOSE TIME CONSUMING SERVICES

You can use download batch files that will turn these services off and on all at once.Such services as Windows Automatic Updates and Anti Virus utilitiy can be turned off and on when desired.

Stopservices.cmd is a batch file that turns your services off while Startservices will turn them back on again.Its that simple for you to give it a try to see if your computer's performance is noticable.

You can download Stop and Startservices.cmd at the PC World site at and give each file a try.Note that rebooting your computer will also return the services back to their normal state.

You can customize each file by right-clicking the file and selecing the Edit menu command. To run the files, move them into your C:WindowsSystem32 folder, then click Start, Run, and type either stopservices or startservices, depending on what you want to do.

Keep in mind that it is time consuming when any computer boots no matter how much disabling and removing you do.Learning how to tweak your computer will help you learn that much more about your computer.

Nintendo Wii Freeloader - Quickly And Easily Play Your Gamecube Import Games On Your Nintendo Wii

Any hard core gamers knows that many of the best games - or at least the most unique games, come right out of Japan. Most of these games never see the light of day in the United States or Europe and gamers are left wanting and drooling for games they'll never have the chance to play. At least that was the case with the Gamecube and now also with the Nintendo Wii. Then along came a little disc called the Freeloader, that allowed any Gamecube to play any Japanese game with ease, with no mod chip required and no need to open your console.

Why do I mention Gamecube and Wii playing import games? Simply because the Nintendo Wii is also compatible with every single Gamecube Game, including the FreeLoader disc. Because the Nintendo Wii can boot Gamecube Discs / games, you can also load the Freeloader and finally take advantage of all of the great Import games on the market. The Nintendo Wii Freeloader is a disc, that allows any Wii owner to play import Gamecube games without a mod chip. As you may have guessed, the Freeloader was not actually manufactured for the Nintendo Wii, but was instead a product that has been out for several years (with various updates) for the Nintendo Gamecube. Since the Wii can play Gamecube games and is backwards compatible, it will also load the FreeLoader on any Wii console allowing you to play any region Gamecube game with ease.

Now, if this were just any kind of disc, I wouldn't write a review on it. And often times, when I talk about import games, people ask me why I would want to play games that are all in Japanese and can't be played anyway. Or ask me what the big deal is with these games from Japan. The fact of the matter is, over 60% of Japanese import games can be played with no problem. I'm a big fan or racing games and some of the BEST racing games for Gamecube have only been released in Japan. The same would go for first person shooters. But more than that, some of the games are just so very unique, so well designed, that you must try them. You'll immediately become an import game fan once you do.

Regardless of the genre of games you like. By being able to play import games, you're actually expanding your software library, or at least the available selection by thousands of additional games. Many of these games you won't hear about at your local Blockbuster, or in magazine. But online review sites like IGN.com or GameSpot.com have entire sections devoted to import games and import gaming, because there are a tremendous amount of great games available.

This brings us back to the Freeloader. The Freeloader was developed by Datel as a means to cut out the need for installing a mod chip in your Gamecube console to have access, and the ability to play these games. Before the Freeloader, you would need to install a Gamecube Mod Chip like the Xeno Gamecube or the Viper Gamecube chip to play your import and personally backed up games. While the Freeloader won't let you play backup games, it will effortlessly allow you to play Import games from any region on any Gamecube.

I want to also say that this is NOT an article to promote the Freeloader as the next best thing since sliced The Legend Of Zelda for the Gamecube or Nintendo Wii. If you're not into Japanese games, or import games in general, and have no interest in them, then the Freeloader is not for you. It doesn't offer any extras or advantages for any Nintendo Wii or Gamecube owner who is happy to just play the offering of games available in their own country. Its sole purpose is to allow gamers like myself, and tens of thousands of others, to enable the playing of Import games. While I am stressing just Japanese games in this article as they are my own personal favorite. European gamers can also play the latest games released only in the USA on their PAL Gamecube or Nintendo Wii systems as well. Gamecube import games are not just from Japan. If you're a fan or Rally racing games, many of the best games in that genre are released in the UK and Europe.

Just how do you use the Gamecube Freeloader on the Nintendo Wii? First of all, think of it as a Nintendo Wii Freeloader. Insert the disc into your Nintendo Wii just as you would your Gamecube, and then select it from your Wii Dashboard. It'll load up, and you'll be greeted by the Freeloader main menu, where you'll have several selections. While it isn't loaded with features that'll blow you away - that is exactly the reason it's so easy to use. I suppose there aren't really a slew of features you could pack in to software that is intended to do just one thing - play import video games. We can thank the simplicity and ease of use due to the few options it has.

The Freeloader is easy to use, both on the Gamecube and the Nintendo Wii console. You simply put the disc in the Gamecube or your Nintendo Wii, wait for it to load and then pick the map representing the region you want to play. You'll then have to eject the disc from your Nintendo Wii, or open the Gamecube lid, and take out the Freeloader, put in the game you want to play and it will just load for you. It couldn't get any easier really.

In closing, the Freeloader for the Gamecube or Nintendo Wii is meant to do one thing, and one thing only. It does it with ease and work perfectly each and every time. It's not intended to do anything else. Comparing it to other software or add ons for either the Gamecube or the Nintendo Wii would be pointless. If you want to start getting the latest import games without having to wait until the hit the local market - if they ever do at all, then the Freeloader is the easiest and cheapest way to get you started.

How To Troubleshoot DVD Drives Fast

You really enjoy those dvd movies and games and the last thing you need or want is to experience problems with your dvd drive.

Third..If you're certain the surge protector or wall outlet is providing power,double check the cord by plugging it in a few times.If no power is present,you will have to replace the cord or the drive itself.

Internal dvd drives receive their power from the connector from the power supply.Try another connector to the drive. if the internal dvd drive still does not receive power after using another connector,the drive is faulty.

DRIVE HAS POWER BUT TRAY WON'T OPEN

You may experience the tray failing to open.Should this happen,press the button a couple times to see if it will open.If the tray fail to open,reboot your computer and try to open the tray.

When rebooting the system,notice the monitor to see if the drive is recognized by the computer.Some systems will not display installed hardware during bootup.If this is the case,you will have to access your BIOS to check if the dvd drive is being registered.

You can also try the manual eject button on the drive to get it to open.Use something very small but firm to press in the pinhole in front of the drive to open the tray.

Shut the computer off and unplug it.Use something like a long paperclip to insert in the pinhole to open the tray. The tray may open a couple inches and you can grab it with your fingers to open it completely.

DRIVE IS NOT RECOGNIZED BY WINDOWS

Be sure the operating system is recognizing the drive by clicking on My Computer.Windows XP will show "drives with removable storage".If your drive is present, highlight the drive,right click and select properties.Click on properties and you should see "this drive is working properly".

If you see another message such as "this drive is not working properly",you may be able to update the device driver.If the drive is not present in My computer,reboot the computer and access the cmos setup.

In the cmos setup,the dvd drive should be present.The drive may not be properly installed or one of the cables have become disconnected if the drive is missing

If you check the drive cables and are certain they are connected correctly,it may be that the data cable is faulty and the drive controller may be at fault.And we can't overlook the fact that the drive itself may be bad.
