You have just bought your new video game CD and can't wait to put it in your games console and start playing. But WAIT! You must do something first. Burn a backup GAME.
Why? Well, there are several good reasons.
First, look at the way most discs are treated. They are left lying around, they get trodden on, chewed on by the dog, spilt on and generally mistreated. This is because we have come to believe that these discs will put up with almost anything. The music ones,at least.
Regrettably this is not true of games discs. When you see the awful DISC ERROR it is too late. This is why you need to make a backup game when the original is new and unspoilt.
Then consider the cost of video games. Like it or not, games these days cost a lot of money. Spoil a disc and you have to replace it. A backup game would save that expense.
And what if you, like many of us, tend to lose or misplace CDs? Those little discs can manage to disappear in any room like magic. No problem, if you have made a backup game.
Case proved, then, that making backup games is a Good Thing. It is useful to keep some basic things in mind when making a backup game or video.
First and foremost, you are allowed to make a copy of any disc that is your property but not allowed to copy one belonging to somebody else. We fully support this. After all, if games designers didnt make any money from their work, we wouldnt get to enjoy the fabulous games we have come to expect from the industry.
And it helps to reduce transcription errors if you can copy the disc to your hard drive first, before burning the copy disc.
Try out various reading speeds, starting with 1x and probably not exceeding 8x. This might take a few more minutes but will make sure that you read images correctly from the CD-Reader.
Finally, it is a good idea to use your backup copy for playing and store the original in a safe place. That way, if the backup gets damaged or lost, another copy can be made quite easily.
Honestly, it is absolutely invaluable taking just a few minutes to make a backup game. It can save you money, save time searching for that lost game CD, and lets you concentrate on enjoying the game.
And now there is some very good games copying software to do the job quickly and easily, with a dash of fun thrown in too.
